We all have days where the flashing cursor wins, and we struggle for inspiration. If your blog is craving fresh content, but you don’t know where to start, try some of the following ideas to help you find your creative mojo, and get busy writing.
Get some exercise
When you’re struggling for ideas, and beating yourself up about the fact you’re not getting any work done, the last thing you want to hear is that you should take a break.
But there’s no escaping the fact that simply getting away from the desk, and getting your blood flowing, is a great way to refresh. You’ll then be able to return to work with a completely different mind-set.
This is a great website for generating content ideas – and even better if you want to come up with topics that are surefire winners.
Visit buzzsumo.com, and you can type in a general topic – such as ‘travel copywriting’ to be presented with some of the web’s most popular related articles.
If you can’t get inspired by these popular posts, then try searching for a competitor’s site. You’ll be given a list of their most-shared content, which will give you a great insight into exactly what it is that your audience wants to be read.
Of course – don’t copy. Simply use the results as inspiration, to get a good idea of the kind of information your audience is hunting.
Look in the news
Read a paper, or scan a few websites – and you’re bound to find some interesting information that you can give your take on in a blog post or short video.
Try and add something fresh to the debate, rather than simply regurgitating the news, however.
Check some question sites
Whether it’s Quora, Yahoo Questions, or online discussion forums, your audience is out there asking the questions that you have the expertise to answer.
With a little research, you can listen to your customers’ problems, and really impress them with your knowledge and authority.
Don’t be shy, if you’ve got an engaged social media following, why not get in touch with them and see what they want to hear from you?
Of course, one of the simplest ways to avoid running out of ideas is to plan well ahead.
Creating a content schedule, and keeping it updated, ensures you’ll never be scraping around for inspiration at the last minute, and will always be well placed to produce efficient, consistent content.
